Obviously anything off of their registry will help them, but a few other suggestions for items that I used the most are definitely diapers (get them a few packs of each size)…and plenty of wipes too! The mommy will be sore and not feel like going to the store for awhile and it will save Dad trips to the store to pick them up! At my shower, I recieved enough diapers that I did not have to buy them until my baby was nine weeks old (and you never know how much you appreciate that until after the baby is born!!) If there house is two stories, another great item that I used alot was an all in one play yard. My daughters nursery upstairs had her crib and changing table and there is no way you want to drag a baby up and down stairs all day, so have an all in one playard to put downstairs will help with that. A great one to try is from babies r us http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266237&cp=&sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2255957&origkw=LAura+Ashley&kw=laura+ashley&parentPage=search.
My daughter loved this because the bassinet part vibrated so she took naps in it, plus the changing table got so much use and it does not have the “straps” of a recently recalled playard because of a strangulation problem. I also used a sleep postioner to help my little one stay on her back and it also helped her to feel more snuggled during sleeping, try the “The First Years Air Flow Sleep Positioner by Learning Curve” it is adjustable to fit whatever size the baby is. They will also need plenty of recieving blankets, a Boppy is great, and also the Diaper Genie II is great also! Another great gift might be something for the new mommy and daddy such as a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant and free babysitting services provided by you (hopefully you can handle a newborn!) while they are away! Good Luck

A friend of mine had a Frozen Food Dinner Party, where the guests brought frozen foods and dinners (It was a second “baby shower” of sorts). When you have a baby there’s barely time to eat, let alone cook. Get the parents a gift card to a take out place or make something and take it to them to freeze. They will really use it and be thankful they aren’t shelling out any cash to eat gourmet.

A fund for the baby.
Some silver with inscriptions that will stay life long.
Some item on their list that is lasting.
Like a car seat . Few give these for the baby.
Usually parents buy the car seat or stroller or the high chair.
I am thinking, sometimes parents do not manage to purchase many items on the list. Take a look at those too.
Best wishes.

Get a diaper/receiving blanket cake. You can find many different sites/types online for one. Not only are they cute, but you’d be suprised how much they’ll actually appreciate diapers over something unique they’d never use once the baby is here.

Also, you may want to do a dad’s survival kit and a mom’s survival kit. In the dad’s survival kit, you could put in a gift certificate for a movie store, close pin for his nose when changing diapers, rubber gloves, and hand sanitizer. You could also throw in small things he might like such as chocolates, a onesie with his favorite band/sports team on it. You can do something similar for the mom, but instead of movie gift card, it could be for a massage or somewhere like Target or Bed Bath and Beyond. Even a $10 gift certificate will be appreciated and loved!
Good luck!

stick to the registry. it’s what the parents want. they picked it out after all. get something special like the crib, etc.
